THE GOSPEL
What is the
Good News?
The Gospel is not advice about how to improve ourselves. It is the good news of what God has done for sinners through Jesus Christ.
BEGINNING WITH GOD
We were made for Him.
The Gospel begins with God, not with us. God is our Creator. He is holy, righteous, and worthy of our worship. We were created by Him and for Him, and our lives ultimately belong to Him.
Our greatest problem is deeper than the circumstances of life. Sin has separated us from the God who made us.
Genesis 1:27 · Isaiah 6:3 · Romans 11:36
THE PROBLEM
Sin separates us from God.
Scripture says, “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sin is not merely making mistakes. It is our rebellion against God—failing to love Him, trust Him, and obey Him as we should.
We cannot erase our guilt by becoming more religious, doing enough good things, or trying harder. The wages of sin is death. Left to ourselves, we stand guilty before a holy God and cannot save ourselves.
Romans 3:23 · Romans 6:23 · Ephesians 2:1–3
GOD'S ANSWER
Jesus Christ came to save sinners.
God did for us what we could never do for ourselves. Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man without ceasing to be God. He lived the sinless life we have not lived and willingly went to the cross.
There He died as a substitute for sinners. He bore the judgment our sin deserves. The debt was not ignored; Christ paid it. Then, on the third day, He bodily rose from the dead. His resurrection declares that death was defeated and that His sacrifice was sufficient.

OUR RESPONSE
Repent and believe.
The Gospel calls for a response. Jesus said, “repent and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15). Repentance is a change of mind about our sin that turns us toward God. Faith means trusting in Jesus Christ alone—not ourselves, our works, our church attendance, or our religion—to save us.
Salvation is God's gift of grace. We are not forgiven because we make ourselves worthy. We are forgiven because Christ is sufficient. Everyone who truly turns to Christ in faith is forgiven, reconciled to God, and given eternal life.
Mark 1:15 · Ephesians 2:8–9 · Romans 10:9–10
A NEW LIFE
Christ does not merely add something to our lives.
Those who trust Christ belong to Him. Scripture says we have been “bought with a price.” Salvation is more than escaping judgment; God gives new life and begins changing us from the inside out.
We do not become perfect the moment we believe, but we no longer belong to ourselves. We learn to follow Jesus Christ as Lord, and His Word increasingly shapes how we live.
